The research work conducted in our laboratory concerns metal alkoxides used as catalysts for the polymerization of heterocyclic monomers. Our interests focus on metal alkoxides, based on the group 13 and 14 metals, - catalysts for the polymerization of cyclic esters, which allow for the synthesis of biodegradable polyesters.
Such polymers are of great interest due to their wide range of applications, including medicine. In our research work we develop synthetic methods and determine the structure of model metal alkoxides as well as investigate catalytic properties and application of selected catalysts for the synthesis of biodegradable polyesters. The determination of relationship between the structure of investigated complexes and their catalytic properties is key point of our studies. Such an approach seems to us especially important from the point of view of the synthesis of polyesters of desired structure and properties.
